INTERVIEW TERRELL “REALIFE” BLACK PHOTO CALLIGRAFIST

VALIDATED: Being from Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, New York, what’s your earliest memory of hip hop culture?

CHILLZ: My earliest memory would have to be the golden era... the Bad Boy and Death Row days for sure.

VALIDATED: What musical influence did your father have on you early on?

CHILLZ: My pops had a label in the early 90’s. He would bring me to the studio and I would watch his artist record music almost every weekend. I gained a liking for the studio environment early before I ever wrote a rap.

VALIDATED: How did you get your start as an artist?

CHILLZ: My pops artist had a show and they told me to ride in the car with the rappers. On the way to the show one of the artists asked me if I rap. 60 seconds later, I rapped for him, next week I’m in my 1st studio session.

VALIDATED: Which mc’s influenced your style and what if anything did you “borrow” from them?

CHILLZ: I would say Jadakiss, Jay Z, and B.I.G. They are artists who jump on any type of record, whether it’s rap, r&b or pop, etc and still remain themselves when stepping outside the box.

VALIDATED: You’ve worked with Tek (Smif N Wessun), Snagdadon (Bounce Squad), Nino Man, Lil Cease (Junior Mafia), Flash, Royal Flush, Jadakiss, and the late Black Rob, what did you learn most from working with these artists?

CHILLZ: I learned to remain humble and keep working hard. The race is never over. Even with the success these artists have gained, they’re still going hard and they’re some of the most humblest people I’ve dealt with.

VALIDATED: What does hip hop and freedom of expression mean to you?

CHILLZ: Everything! Without that I have no voice. These are my outlets to be heard.

VALIDATED: Your imprint and brand titled, “Young G Musik”(YGM), what moved you to create your own platform?

CHILLZ: Well I know I can’t do this forever and it’s going to be artists after me that will be just as hungry as I am when the time comes. I want to be able to give artists an opportunity.

VALIDATED: Under YGM you’ve released YGM 1, 2, and 3, what’s been the response to the trilogy?

CHILLZ: Super dope responses. When I completed the first one, I had no plans on doing 2 and 3 but my team convinced me to keep it going.

VALIDATED: Where do you feel you’ve grown most as an artist from YGM 1 to YGM 3?

CHILLZ: Definitely song structures, my beat selections and my cadence is stronger.

VALIDATED: Your most recent project, YGM 3, what’s your favorite record on the project and why?

CHILLZ: Track #6 “4 The Luv” featuring TEK, Fla$h and Holly Cartier. It’s the most features I’ve had on one record and It’s just fire.

VALIDATED: You’re currently working on another project with “Culture Pushaz Collective” (CPC) along with Flash and Lil Cease and a host of others, what can you tell us about it?

CHILLZ: Just expect some of the dopest hip hop records you heard in a while. We bridging the gap between the younger and older generation and we pushing the culture forward!

VALIDATED: How did the opportunity come about to get involved with the CPC?

CHILLZ: My big bro Tek of Smif-n-Wesson told me, him and Fla$h were putting a movement together called Culture Pushaz. I came to the studio one night and the rest is history.

VALIDATED: What’s next for Chillz?

CHILLZ: Good Music! Look out for Culture Pushaz Vol. 1. dropping this summer!

VALIDATED: What’s your social media contacts and website?

CHILLZ: My Instagram and Twitter is @iamchillz and my Facebook is Chillz YG.
